About the event

Hosted by the Polokwane Airshow M.O.T.H'S Association, our Potjiekos competition in May promises a fusion of culinary excellence and aviation excitement. Join us as teams compete to create the most delectable potjie dishes amidst the thrilling backdrop of aircraft displays. Get ready to savor the taste of tradition and camaraderie in the heart of Polokwane!

INtroductory Potjiekos Requirements: 

  1. Potjiekos must be prepared in traditional cast iron pots over open flames. 
  2. Ingredients: Teams are encouraged to use a variety of fresh ingredients, including meats, vegetables, and spices. Alcohol may be used in moderation. 
  3. Cooking Equipment: Each team must bring their own cooking equipment, including pots, utensils, and fuel (gas or wood).

Judging Criteria: 

  1.  Taste: Dishes will be judged based on flavor, seasoning, and overall taste. 
  2. Presentation: Attention to detail in plating and presentation will be considered. 
  3. Creativity: Originality and innovation in recipe and execution will be rewarded. 
  4. Team Spirit: Sportsmanship, teamwork, and interaction with spectators and fellow competitors will be taken into account.

Rules and Regulations: 

  1. Cooking Time: The cooking period will be specified by the organizers closer to the launch. Teams will be required to complete their dishes within the allocated time.
  2.  Food Safety: Teams must adhere to proper food handling and safety guidelines throughout the cooking process. 
  3. Disqualification: Teams may be disqualified for any violation of the competition rules or unsportsmanlike conduct, as determined by the judges or event organizers.

Teams: 

  1. Maximum Number: 5-10 Teams 
  2. Team Composition: Teams may consist of a minimum of 1 person and maximum of 4 members. Age restrictions, if any, will be communicated during registration.
  3. Registration: Teams must register in advance and pay the registration fee to secure their participation. Registration deadlines will be announced by the organizers.

Additional Information: 

  1. All decisions made by the judges and event organizers are final. 
  2. Participants are responsible for cleaning up their cooking stations after the competition. 
  3. Any changes or updates to the competition guidelines will be communicated to registered teams in a timely manner.
